Will County officials wasted no time in presenting their Community Friendly Freight Mobility Plan to legislators in Washington D.C., in hopes of securing funds for road improvements.

The Will County Community Friendly Freight Mobility Plan was released this past week and adopted by the Will County Board. The plan is a significant piece of work to be used by the county and its communities that are dealing with the impacts of large distribution and logistics centers being developed around Will County.

As Will County officials recently adopted their "Community Friendly Freight Mobility" study, they hailed it as the "first of its kind" in this area, one that should create regional interest, and generate federal and state funds.

JOLIET – The much-anticipated Will County Community Friendly Freight Mobility Plan is finally official.

With proposals for two large scale industrial parks in the works — in Crete and Elwood — Will County officials say they hope their soon-to-be-adopted Community Friendly Freight Mobility Plan will help local leaders minimize the impacts of these sizeable projects.

Will County is the largest inland port in North America, according to the county's Center for Economic Development.

Between 2005 and 2015, freight-related industry in Will County grew by 138 percent, and the CED estimates that growth will continue at a similar pace.
